Manchester United are eagerly awaiting Ruben Amorim’s arrival as he heads into his final few days as Sporting boss.
Time really is flying; it’s already more than a week since Manchester United sacked Erik ten Hag.
United pulled the trigger after a disappointing start to the season and quickly picked out a top choice to replace Ten Hag.
Ruben Amorim was the top target for United after winning two league titles for Sporting in Portugal.
Amorim has now been appointed as United’s new boss but will only arrive in Manchester during the international break.
United struck a deal for Amorim but have allowed him to see Sporting though to the international break, coming up after this weekend.

Amorim has two more games to go, starting with the Champions League clash against Manchester City on Tuesday night.
This is a fascinating encounter as Amorim will go up against Pep Guardiola and his City side with United fans everywhere no doubt paying close attention.
Amorim has already joked about being compared to Sir Alex Ferguson if he wins, with United fans ready to make him an instant hero.
City star Bernardo Silva has now been asked about Amorim and told Mais Futebol in Portugal that he thinks Amorim’s work at Sporting has been simply ‘unbelievable’.
Silva isn’t wishing Amorim too much luck given the rivalry between City and United, but is pleased to see another Portuguese coach in the Premier League.
Silva stopped short of branding the ‘promising’ Amorim as one of the best managers in the world though, believing that he is about to start a truly massive test of his coaching abilities.
“About him going to Manchester United, well, I don’t wish him much good, because he’s going to be my rival, but he deserves what he gets, the work he’s done in recent years has been unbelievable,” said Silva.
“He also deserves to make the leap, in this case to United, I don’t wish him the best because he will be my rival, but I’m happy that we have another Portuguese coach at such a high level in the best championship in the world.
“As for Ruben, one of the best coaches in the world, it’s difficult to say that, to put such a young coach at the level of my coach [Guardiola], of an Ancelotti, of a Klopp, coaches who have been consistently at the highest level, I think it’s difficult.
“You need some consistency and to have a test at the highest level in European football, which Ruben is about to start now. He’s on an excellent path, but one of the best in the world… one of the most promising in the world, without a doubt. And what he’s done so far has been fantastic,” he added.

United fans can’t get too high or low about Sporting v Manchester City
There is so much hype around Amorim and United fans will be glued to their TV screens in order to catch a glimpse of the new boss up against Guardiola ahead of Amorim taking charge of United against Ipswich Town later this month.
United fans look at the table above and know that it just isn’t good enough; 13th in the Premier League table, three wins in 10, just nine goals scored… it’s a bleak state of affairs.
A Sporting win would certainly raise expectation levels for Amorim but it’s important for everybody to remain level-headed no matter the scoreline.
We saw Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag pick up wins against Guardiola’s Manchester City without truly being the answer at United.
Similarly, a defeat wouldn’t offer too much insight about Amorim at United and should not put anybody off the Portuguese coach.
United fans want hope and Amorim can provide that – but with time and effort at Old Trafford rather than in 90 minutes for Sporting against City.
