Manchester United have reportedly appeared to shift their transfer policy strategy after one Red Devils player’s impressive run of form under manager Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Amorim has seen momentum shift back in Manchester United’s favour at the start of 2025 after a disappointing run of form towards the end of 2024.
The Red Devils signed off 2024 by losing four consecutive matches — three of which came in the Premier League alone — across all competitions in December.
However, Amorim’s men impressed earlier this month on their visit to Anfield and United secured a well-deserved point against Liverpool in a 2-2 draw.
United then began the start of their FA Cup title defence on the weekend against Premier League rivals Arsenal at the Emirates.
Amorim’s side dumped Arsenal out of the FA Cup after securing a sensational penalty shootout win over the Gunners in Sunday’s third-round tie.

Man Utd star’s impressive run of form
Harry Maguire has become a key defensive figure for Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim and impressed with his recent run of form at Old Trafford.
Amorim wasted no time implementing his blueprint at the Red Devils and United have shifted to a three-man backline as part of the manager’s tactical system.
Harry Maguire has successfully solidified his place in the 39-year-old Portuguese manager’s set-up and is often played as the central defender in the backline.
The 31-year-old United and England defender produced a superb display for the Red Devils in the FA Cup win over Arsenal at the Emirates.
Maguire was out of contract in the summer with United, but Amorim wanted to keep him at Old Trafford and the ex-Red Devils skipper inked a contract extension.
Maguire’s form leads to Man Utd transfer shake-up
According to The Daily Mail, Harry Maguire’s resurgence at Old Trafford has created a ripple effect on United’s approach to transfers in the near future.
The United centre-back is now tied under contract until 2026 and Amorim is in urgent need of strengthening key areas of the United first-team squad.
The newspaper reports that the Red Devils are now looking to sign a ‘younger centre-back with potential’ instead of paying ‘big money’ for a player.
It is believed that a ‘ready-made replacement’ signing like Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite would now be unlikely to happen after Maguire’s run of form.
Jarrad Branthwaite was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in 2024, but United were unwilling to meet Everton’s hefty £70m price tag for the defender.
The Daily Mail added that the shift in transfer policy would mean that United could now allocate their ‘limited transfer funds to other areas of the team.’
