Ruben Amorim has installed “confidence and belief” in one key Manchester United star after making a big call over the player’s future in his first-team squad.

Manchester United have seen a shift in form since the start of 2025 and the Red Devils have impressed in their last two matches under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils picked up an important Premier League point against league leaders Liverpool at Anfield in a 2-2 draw earlier this month.

United then returned to winning ways on Sunday afternoon after a sensational penalty shootout win over Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.

Ahead of the Arsenal victory, Amorim’s men had not won a match since their 2-1 Premier League comeback result against Manchester City in December 2024.

Amorim had overseen a dip in form at Old Trafford in the tail end of 2024 after United lost four matches in a row across all competitions.

Man Utd star on what Amorim said

Manchester United will face Leicester City at Old Trafford in the fourth round of the FA Cup in February after their hard-fought win over Arsenal at the Emirates.

The Red Devils will be reunited with Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was interim United head coach ahead of Ruben Amorim’s arrival last November.

Speaking after the penalty shootout win over Arsenal, Harry Maguire has opened up on the impact that United manager Ruben Amorim has had on him at Old Trafford.

Harry Maguire has become a key part of the three-man backline in Amorim’s tactical set-up and the former United captain deeply impressed against the Gunners.

The 31-year-old United defender’s future had been in doubt after his contract was set to expire in the summer, but United triggered a one-year extension in his deal.

Maguire, who is now under contract until June 2026, revealed how Amorim felt about extending his stay at Old Trafford and how it was a “no-brainer” for him.

“Ruben said to me that when it came across to him that I had an option [in my contract], he said it was a no-brainer for him,” he said, as per The Daily Mirror.

“It’s given me confidence and belief that they want me at the club and part of this project. He’s really demanding.

“And I’m happy to be here. I want this club to be back fighting for titles and not fighting where we are in the table right now. We’ve got a long way to go.”

Maguire on his time at Man Utd

Harry Maguire admitted that he has had his ups and downs during his time at United and the England star believes that he is finally “getting back” to his best “level.”

“I think my first couple of years at United was probably the best part of my career,” he explained.

“I’m 31 now, coming up to 32 in a couple of months, but I’m getting back to that level.

“I also think I was at that level last season as well, so it’s been 18 months now where I’d say I’ve been playing consistently well for this club again.

“There’s no doubt I had a tough year in my third season when Ralf [Rangnick] took over, I wasn’t at my best, I knew that, I knew I needed to find something to stay at this club because it demands high standards and I feel like I’ve found something. Mentally and physically, I feel good.”
