Man Utd star with 44 appearances already in 2024 gets very rare rest in boost for Erik ten Hag

There are a lot of players Manchester United do not want to get injured. But at the top of the list has to be Diogo Dalot.

Diogo Dalot has played in a staggering 44 games for club and country already in 2024.

At present he is Manchester United’s only fit full-back.

Noussair Mazraoui’s health problem adds him to the injury report along with ever-injured Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw.

Diogo Dalot rested

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot was an unused substitute in Portugal’s 0-0 draw with Scotland.

While Bruno Fernandes did play, and featured for all 90 minutes, he at least has one rest scheduled with his upcoming Europa League suspension.

Dalot was excused, with Portugal boss Roberto Martinez selecting Nuno Mendes and Joao Cancelo.

It was a much-needed rest for Dalot ahead of a busy period, with United set to face Brentford, Fenerbahce, West Ham and Leicester City within a 12-day span.

With a lack of alternative options at full-back, Diogo Dalot could be in line to play every single minute of every game.

Was it a request from United for Dalot to be rested? If so, it has worked out nicely.

Not an intensive spell for United stars

There was positive news the night prior when Matthijs de Ligt and Victor Lindelof were left out of the Netherlands and Sweden teams who played this week.

Joshua Zirkzee only played 15 minutes too, another player with reduced playing time over the break.

United’s starting XI against Brentford is yet to become clear, one absolute certainty is Dalot will play.

And his rest on Tuersday night is a very welcome positive.
