Manchester United have already agreed new contracts for Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo this season.
With Michael Carrick set to be appointed as the permanent head coach, he can begin planning for the 2026/27 season and the upcoming summer transfer window.
United are expected to invest heavily in their midfield, but several outgoings are also expected to complete a squad overhaul.
Michael Carrick can now have his input on the squad planning, and it seems he would like to keep hold of Diogo Dalot at all costs.

Man Utd ready to begin Diogo Dalot contract talks
Jose Mourinho’s return to Real Madrid has reignited transfer talk around Dalot.
Madrid were ready to bid £50m for Dalot in late 2024 and it seems the Spanish giants could turn to the Portuguese defender once again.
Dalot has been heavily criticised at United, but he has been an extremely consistent performer under Carrick and has strung together an impressive unbeaten run.
According to TeamTalk, Carrick has made it clear to United chiefs that he values Dalot as an integral part of the first-team squad and does not want to see him sold.
Carrick does not want to entertain any possibility of selling Dalot, and the report adds that United are “increasingly open” to discussing an improved long-term deal for the 27-year-old.

The clubs interested in signing Diogo Dalot this summer
We have already touched upon Madrid’s interest in Dalot this summer as they look to overhaul their squad under Mourinho, but there are other European giants in the race.
The TeamTalk report adds that Bayern Munich and Barcelona are also showing an interest in the United star.
Dalot has been with United for eight years since signing for the club under Mourinho back in 2018. Since then, he has gone from an inexperienced teenager to a squad leader and a role model behind the scenes.
There are two years remaining on Dalot’s contract at United, so discussing a new deal would end all rumours over his future.
