Manchester United right-back Diogo Dalot has welcomed his World Cup call-up with Portugal.
Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes have both been named in Portugal’s World Cup squad for 2026.
Both players will be playing in their second World Cup after representing their country at World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
The call follows a strong club season for both players, and Dalot is keen to capitalise on the momentum.

What is your verdict on Diogo Dalot’s 2025/26 season?
Diogo Dalot welcomes call-up
Diogo Dalot has responded with excitement to his World Cup call-up for the upcoming tournament in the USA.
He is proud of his season with Manchester United and feels it stands him in good stead for the international challenge ahead, rather than feeling tired and exhausted.
He said in a statement: “It is a great honour to be part, for the second time, of the group that will represent Portugal at the World Cup.
“Playing in a World Cup is the highest point in any footballer’s career, and after a very positive season in which I helped Manchester United return to the Champions League and finish in the Premier
League top three, I feel physically and mentally in an excellent moment to help our national team try to bring great joy to all Portuguese people.”
Dalot has been excellent for Manchester United this season, playing a key role and establishing himself as the club’s first choice right-back under new head coach Michael Carrick.
United are undefeated in the matches Dalot has started under Carrick; he was rested for the losses against Newcastle and Leeds.
His teammate Bruno Fernandes has also been in impressive form, winning the FWA Footballer of the Year and Manchester United Player of the Year Awards, after equalling the Premier League single-season assist record with a game to spare.

Portugal among the seeded teams
Portugal are among the seeded teams at the tournament. They are in a group with Colombia, DR Congo and Uzbekistan.
Unlike 2022, there is calmness around their preparations. Cristiano Ronaldo hit the headlines ahead of the previous tournament by forcing an exit from Manchester United with a controversial interview.
Ronaldo is still part of the 2026 squad, but there is no drama around his circumstances this time around.
