Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has not had the dream return to Borussia Dortmund he hoped for.
After escaping his self-imposed purgatory at Manchester United, Jadon Sancho was a very happy man when he signed on loan with Borussia Dortmund.
Sancho started well enough, with an assist against 20th placed Darmstadt. Since then, it has been a barren run, with no goals or assists.
He was heavily criticised after the Champions League game with PSV last week, and then following a home defeat to Hoffenheim, he was harshly branded the ‘worst player on the pitch‘.

Jadon Sancho placing Dortmund under pressure
Borussia Dortmund face a battle for a top four spot and so far, Jadon Sancho is failing to have the desired impact from a personal level or helping the team.
This is decreasing the desire for Dortmund to pursue a costly return on a permanent basis, and attention is beginning to turn to the opportunity cost of his return.
German outlet Sport.de reports: “Due to Sancho’s ongoing weak phase, those responsible in Dortmund have to face more and more criticism. If the return campaign represents little risk from a financial perspective, the development of your own players will be slowed down. Players who have a realistic future in the Ruhr area. Unlike Sancho.”
One of these talents is young winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who Dortmund value highly, yet, he has seen his game time reduced, making only two starts from the last six matches.
Dortmund manager Edin Terzic said after the Dortmund game that he needs Sancho to get up to speed, commenting: “I don’t have time. He doesn’t have time. We don’t have time. If he wants to come here and demand time, that won’t work.”
Terzic is coming under a little pressure, ahead of a tricky game away at Union Berlin this coming weekend, they have won only two of their last five league games.
Sport.de add: “If Edin Terzic sticks to his word, the Englishman won’t get too many chances. Time is running out soon.”
Sancho loan extension might work
When Sancho made his move to Borussia Dortmund, we reported how the possibility of a loan extension to 2025 could come into play.
This could work in everybody’s favour, giving Sancho more time to prove himself, and restore his transfer value.
He is still under a long-term deal at Manchester United, and the team would currently be set to take a major loss to sell him this summer, but it’s probably impossible, because no team would be willing to go near the salary he is paid currently.
The best hope might be that he can come good in Germany, and enjoys it so much he wants to take a salary cut to stay there. But first, he has to produce on the pitch.
