Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim has the same “work ethic” as one former Premier League head coach ahead of his arrival at Manchester United.
That is according to free agent Quique Sanchez Flores, who believes that “time will tell” if Ruben Amorim can “reach” the level of one legendary manager.
Considered one of Europe’s highly rated upcoming managers, Amorim has been widely praised for his work at Portuguese side Sporting CP.
During Amorim’s reign at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, Sporting CP have lifted two Primeira Liga titles and two Portuguese League Cups under their current manager.
The 39-year-old Portuguese manager’s spell at the Primeira Liga outfit will come to an end after Manchester United agreed a deal to sign him from Sporting CP.
United are without a permanent manager after Erik ten Hag was sacked last week, with club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy stepping up as interim manager.

Flores makes Amorim comparison
Manchester United triggered the release clause in Ruben Amorim’s Sporting CP contract and paid the Portuguese club a fee of £9.25m.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was an assistant manager under Erik ten Hag, will see his interim managerial spell at United come to an end later this week.
The 48-year-old United legend will lead the Red Devils against PAOK in the Europa League and against Leicester City in the Premier League before Amorim’s arrival.
Quique Sanchez Flores, who left Spanish side Sevilla in the summer, made a major comparison between Amorim and former United manager Jose Mourinho.
“I remember him as an intelligent, elegant and committed footballer,” he said, as per Portuguese newspaper Record.
“He was always close to his teammates. The way his teams play reflects a high level of discipline.”
Flores added: “He has a work ethic similar to that of the former United manager, Jose Mourinho.
“Only time will tell if Ruben can reach his level. But, most importantly, he understands the mentality of this new generation of players.”
Amorim sends clear message
Amorim will officially become United manager on 11 November, but the Sporting CP boss will have to wait until after the international break for his first match in charge.
The soon-to-be United boss will oversee his first test as Red Devils head coach on 24th November when the club will travel to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town.
Fabrizio Romano on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, confirmed that Amorim will be taking his coaching staff to the Red Devils with him.
“I’m going to take my coaching staff with me at Manchester United,” he said, as per Romano’s tweet.
“They’re absolutely key for me. We’ve been together since Casa Pia. It was one of the conditions.”
