Gary Lineker and Micah Richards both in full agreement on ‘outstanding’ player in Man Utd vs Chelsea draw

Gary Lineker and Micah Richards were both on the same wavelength over one player who has found “confidence” after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of Manchester United for their first Premier League match without Erik ten Hag, who was axed from Old Trafford in October.

The 48-year-old United legend, who was assistant manager under Erik ten Hag, was appointed interim manager after his fellow Dutch compatriot’s sacking.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first match in charge of the Red Devils was the round-of-16 Carabao Cup tie last week, with United beating Leicester City at Old Trafford.

United welcomed Chelsea to Old Trafford on Sunday and Van Nistelrooy’s men had to settle for a Premier League point against the Blues.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring for United from the spot-kick in the 70th minute before Moises Caicedo produced a stunning equaliser only four minutes later.

Lineker and Richards praise one player

Ruud van Nistelrooy will be in charge of Manchester United for the upcoming Europa League clash against PAOK and Premier League match against Leicester City.

However, the former United and Netherlands striker’s interim managerial spell will come to an end ahead of the November international break.

United have already agreed a deal to bring Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag’s successor in the United dugout.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Gary Lineker and Micah Richards both singled out Chelsea star Moises Caicedo for his impact in the 1-1 draw against United.

“Chelsea probably weren’t at their scintillating best but they know what they’re doing and you’d always consider that a decent point, I think,” Lineker said.

“Overall, I thought Moises Caicedo was the best player on the pitch, he’s really come good of late.”

Richards added: “I thought Caicedo was outstanding today.

“He’s found his confidence. It’s the Caicedo we’ve seen at Brighton now, isn’t it? He ran the midfield.”

Richards on Man Utd ‘disconnect’ vs Chelsea

United are currently 13th in the Premier League after securing a point against Chelsea, with the Red Devils six points adrift from the top four.

Ruben Amorim’s first match in charge of United will be after the November break, as the Red Devils will travel to Portman Road for their clash with Ipswich Town.

Richards insisted that Amorim, who has been widely praised for his work at Sporting CP, has a “massive” task on his hands when he arrives as the new United manager.

“But there’s just a massive disconnect between Manchester United’s midfield and Rasmus Hojlund up front,” Richards continued.

“[New United manager] Ruben Amorim has a massive job on his hands.

“I thought United were there for the taking so that would be my only worry for Chelsea but it’s been a really good start to the season. The question now is can they kick on?”
