Gary Neville and Roy Keane dropped clear-cut verdicts on one incident in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Red Devils are 13th in the Premier League table after their clash against Chelsea at Old Trafford and are six points adrift from the top four.

Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock in the 70th minute from the spot-kick before Moises Caicedo cancelled out Manchester United’s opener only four minutes later.

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been placed in charge of United after the Red Devils axed Erik ten Hag from the Old Trafford dugout last week.

The 48-year-old United legend will lead the Red Devils until the arrival of Ruben Amorim, who is set to leave Sporting CP and succeed Erik ten Hag as club manager.

Van Nistelrooy, who was part of Ten Hag’s coaching staff as an assistant manager, will end his interim managerial spell before the start of the November break.

Neville and Keane on Man Utd vs Chelsea

Manchester United were fortunate to see out the Chelsea match on Sunday with all 11 men on the pitch after Lisandro Martinez’s poorly timed challenge in injury time.

Lisandro Martinez caught Chelsea star Cole Palmer with a high boot, but the United defender didn’t connect cleanly with his challenge.

Referee Robert Jones brandished a yellow card for the 26-year-old United star, but VAR also reviewed the incident involving Cole Palmer for a potential red card.

However, VAR did not intervene and Martinez walked away from the challenge on Palmer with only a yellow before the full-time whistle was blown.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville insisted that United centre-back Martinez should have been sent off in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

“When you go that high, I think you’re asking for a red card,” he said.

“I think he’s lucky. When you go knee-high and the ball’s gone, I think it’s a red.”

Roy Keane admitted there “would have been no complaints” if Martinez was sent off, but he added that the Argentine defender was lucky he didn’t catch Palmer properly.

“He won’t be happy with Palmer making a fool of him,” he said.

“It’s a nasty challenge. But he doesn’t catch him properly. It’s down the side of his leg. If he had got sent off, there would have been no complaints.”

Van Nistelrooy’s reaction to Man Utd draw

Ruud van Nistelrooy oversaw the start of his interim managerial spell with a 5-2 win over Leicester City in the round of 16 in the Carabao Cup last week.

The Dutchman will lead United against PAOK in the Europa League and against Leicester City in the Premier League this week before Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

Speaking after the Chelsea match, Van Nistelrooy admitted that he felt United should have walked away with all three points from the Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

“I’m slightly disappointed we didn’t take the win, to be honest,” he said, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“I think we had the better of the chances in the game. Garna [Alejandro Garnacho] was close three times, Marcus [Rashford] hit the post with a great attack and Bruno [Fernandes] in the last couple of minutes where he had the shot, when it bounced off one of the Chelsea defenders.

“Overall, I think the performance of the players was fantastic. They left their all out there on the pitch and in the end, of course, we settled for a draw.”
