Man Utd fans react to two players after Nottingham Forest win, one needs to be used as ‘battering ram’

Manchester United fans have made their feelings clear on two Red Devils players after Erik ten Hag’s men defeated Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

The Red Devils punched their ticket to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 victory at City Ground in the fifth round of the competition.

Casemiro broke the deadlock for Manchester United in the 89th minute after turning Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick past Nottingham Forest’s Matt Turner.

VAR checked for offside after Casemiro found the back of the net and deemed there were no problems in the build-up for the United star’s winner in the FA Cup.

United will now face Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford next month, with Jurgen Klopp’s men beating Southampton 3-0 at Anfield.

Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag will be relieved with the result against Forest after United suffered a 2-1 Premier League defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford last week.

The Dutchman, who has faced criticism this season over United’s form, is keen for the Red Devils to challenge for the FA Cup and capture major silverware.

While United are through to the next round of the FA Cup, Red Devils fans had mixed feelings over two players’ performances against Forest at City Ground.

McTominay and Rashford vs Nottingham Forest

Erik ten Hag has turned to Marcus Rashford as his main striking option in the absence of Rasmus Hojlund, who has been ruled out of action due to injury.

Rashford played down the middle against Fulham at Old Trafford on the weekend and the 26-year-old United star failed to impress fans with his performance.

He started in the same position against Nottingham Forest, with Bruno Fernandes deployed behind him and Antony and Alejandro Garnacho out on the wing.

Rashford failed to make his mark in the fifth-round FA Cup tie and fans questioned Ten Hag’s decision to play him as a striker in the absence of Rasmus Hojlund.

Scott McTominay, meanwhile, started alongside match-winner Casemiro in midfield, but United fans felt that the Scotland international offered more than Rashford.

The 27-year-old has had to battle for his place in the starting XI, despite being in impressive goalscoring form for United this season.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, believe that Ten Hag should roll the dice and play McTominay as a striker instead of Rashford.

Man Utd fans react to Rashford and McTominay

“Rashford ghosting again. I’ve had enough of this guy,” one fan said.

Another added: “McTominay doing more of the striker job here, so I don’t know what’s Rashford’s doing in this match.”

A third tweeted: “I would be using Scott McTominay as a battering ram up front at this point. He isn’t Rasmus Hojlund, but he can do a job. Marcus Rashford belongs on the left [and] Alejandro Garnacho has been thriving on the right.”

“McTominay has more touches in the opposition box than Rashford has,” someone else claimed.

While a fourth wrote: “He [Erik ten Hag] can play [Victor] Lindelof and [Sofyan] Amrabat at left-back but can’t put McTominay at CF when Rashford is getting bullied by even wind!”

Someone else commented: “Why does McTominay look better as a [No] 9 than Rashford, I can’t believe I would ever utter those words.”

And a seventh posted: “I’ve seen enough, Scott McTominay needs to replace Rashford for the rest of the season.”
