Man Utd fans have a lot to say about Sofyan Amrabat after performance vs Nottingham Forest in FA Cup

Manchester United fans pulled no punches towards Fiorentina loanee Sofyan Amrabat after his performance against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Red Devils reached the fifth round of the FA Cup after they defeated Wigan 2-0 in the third round and beat Newport County 4-2 in the fourth round.

Erik ten Hag has faced a crisis at left-back after Luke Shaw was ruled out with injury, with the Manchester United star expected to be sidelined for a “few months.”

Tyrell Malacia has been sidelined through injury and the 24-year-old left-back has not returned to first-team action, leaving Erik ten Hag short of options at full-back.

Spain left-back Sergio Reguilon was also sent back to Tottenham in January after United activated their break clause and ended their season-long loan deal.

Victor Lindelof stepped in at left-back amid Luke Shaw’s injury, but the United defender struggled in his performance from the position against Aston Villa.

Sofyan Amrabat, who was signed on deadline day, stepped up in the left-back role for the Nottingham Forest clash, as Victor Lindelof paired alongside Raphael Varane.

Amrabat at left-back for Man Utd

Sofyan Amrabat’s preferred position is as a defensive midfielder, but the Fiorentina loanee played at left-back earlier this season amid the absence of Luke Shaw.

The 27-year-old Morocco midfielder had his work cut out for him during the fifth-round FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest at City Ground.

Amrabat’s legs were put to the test in the full-back role and the Manchester United player struggled to provide the same impact as Shaw would from the left flank.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were quick to criticise Amrabat’s first-half performance in the important FA Cup clash.

One Red Devils supporter claimed that Amrabat looked “immobile and slow,” while another said that the Morocco international was “out of his depth” at left-back.

Man Utd fans react to Sofyan Amrabat’s performance

“I appreciate he’s playing out of position but Amrabat looks out of his depth. Not up to the pace of the game, let alone the players he’s supposed to be marking,” one fan posted.

Someone else said: “Amrabat is one of the worst players I’ve seen in a United shirt.”

A third added: “I’ve seen a lot of awful things over the past few weeks, but watching Amrabat trying to play left-back might just top it.”

“Amrabat is not a full-back but the trouble is neither is [Victor] Lindelof. We have no-one else,” a fourth wrote.

Another asked: “Surely there’s someone in the academy who could do a better job at LB than Amrabat?”

While a sixth tweeted: “Amrabat reminds me of me playing football nowadays. He has all the want, but the legs ain’t doing what the head tells them.”

And a seventh commented: “Amrabat is not fit to play at left-back or even at this level. He’s immobile and slow.”
