Manchester United’s midfield overhaul is set to include three new additions to the first team, including one from Carrington.
This summer’s transfer window will be focused on strengthening the midfield department, with Casemiro leaving at the end of the season and Manuel Ugarte linked with an exit.
That would leave Kobbie Mainoo as the only established central midfielder in the first-team squad, so Ineos are focused on bringing in reinforcements.
There are as many as 24 midfield targets on United’s radar, and it seems the plan is to add three more options over the summer.

Two new signings and an academy promotion at Man United
According to Laurie Whitwell at The Athletic, the expectation at United is for two new midfield signings to arrive in the summer.
With United on the brink of Champions League qualification, there should be a sizeable transfer budget to work with this summer.
The report adds that the skill set of the two new signings will need to complement each other and make them ideal partners for Mainoo.
Earlier this month it was claimed that Adam Wharton is too similar to Mainoo, which explains why United’s interest has died down.
However, United are also planning on promoting an academy star in order to bolster the midfield depth ahead of a campaign where they will be competing in four competitions.

Tyler Fletcher and Jim Thwaites could compete for Man Utd promotion
The two academy stars named in the report as the most likely to break through to the first team are Tyler Fletcher and Jim Thwaites.
Fletcher made his debut this season and has remained around the first team ever since. Meanwhile, Thwaites was given matchday experience by Michael Carrick to help prepare him for his senior debut.

The pre-season will be a key period for both Fletcher and Thwaites to impress staff ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Both youngsters can expect to make their breakthrough to the first team, but two new midfield signings will provide fierce competition for minutes.
