Anthony Martial ‘will not leave’ Premier League giants Manchester United this month with the France international’s agent also playing down reports of a fall-out with Erik ten Hag.
As reports emerged this week claiming that the long-serving striker was training away from the rest of the Red Devils first-team, it certainly didn’t take long before the rumours started swirling.
Had Erik ten Hag fallen out with another member of the Manchester United squad? Anthony Martial going the same way as Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo following that very public dispute between player and coach during December’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle?
Was Martial on his way out? Clubs in Turkey, France and Saudi Arabia linked, and the long-serving former Monaco man due to become a free-agent in the summer.
According to Philippe Lamboley, Martial’s agent, there is a much simpler explanation.
Anthony Martial training on his own at Manchester United

“What is said about him is completely false,” Lamboley tells Sky Sports News. “He was not excluded from the group, and he has no problem with (Erik ten Hag).
“Anthony has been in Manchester for nine seasons. And if he was not a great professional then he would not have been at the club for so long.
“He is simply going to undergo a small operation on his adductors, which he should have done for a while and which did not allow him to be 100 per cent. So, he will do it now.”
Martial is expected to undergo surgery in order to correct a hip issue which has kept him out of the side so far in 2024. That, in itself, goes some way to explaining why Man United appear determined to remove the injury-prone, £250,000 frontman from their crippling wage bill, even if Martial is proving rather difficult to shift.
January exit ruled out
“Anthony will not leave,” Lamboley adds. “And (he) will stay until his contract ends in June.”
Marseille have been credited with an interest in a player who earned a £36 million move to Manchester after emerging from Monaco’s feted academy. The Ligue 1 giants appear to have removed their name from the frame, however, after agreeing an £8 million deal with Bodo/Glimt striker Faris Moumbagna.
