Manchester United striker Anthony Martial is consulting club doctors over whether surgery will be needed for his hip injury, according to reports.
Anthony Martial has had yet another campaign blighted by injury with the Frenchman being the firm second-choice striker with summer signing Rasmus Hojlund establishing himself as the main man in the team, despite just two goals in the Premier League this season.
The Danish forward has missed a handful of games due to injury himself but the Frenchman has not impressed when given the opportunity to do exactly that by Erik ten Hag.
As a result, it has been reported that the club will not trigger the extension in the Frenchman’s contract, meaning he is free to leave in the summer.

Martial’s hip injury
The Frenchman was reportedly banished from first-team training before his agent, Phillipe Lamboley, came out to deny the story, insisting that it was an injury that kept the forward away from training with the rest of the group.
And now, according to a report from ESPN, the 28-year-old forward will have talks with the club doctors at United before deciding whether to move forward with hip surgery to fix the problem, that has been an issue for a while.
According to the report, Martial has recovered from the illness that saw him sidelined towards the end of 2023 but is now nursing a hip problem that is keeping him out of Ten Hag’s team.
Martial is now following an individual training programme but the Frenchman, and the club, could well opt for an operation to correct the issue.
This would keep the forward out of action for a few weeks and you wonder if the striker would make many more appearances in the first team before being moved on in the summer.
Striker target
It seems a striker to back up Hojlund is one of Ten Hag’s targets for the winter transfer window which should tell Martial a lot about where he currently ranks in the Dutchman’s plans.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is a name that has been linked with the Red Devils this month and he would join a list of short-term strikers who joined United in the January transfer window.
Wout Weghorst and Odion Ighalo have had stints up front for the Red Devils and you wonder if the former Stoke City forward could be the next name at Old Trafford.
