Manchester United took the unusual step of announcing some early team news ahead of today’s friendly with Everton.
An hour before the full team was announced, the club website reported that Luke Shaw, Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire will definitely play.
When the full team came out, it brought news of first pre-season appearances for David de Gea, Victor Lindelof and Bruno Fernandes too.
It’s a first pre-season appearance for the trio and Shaw and Maguire’s first action since the Euro 2020 final.
For Martial, the wait has been a lot longer than that.
This will be his first action since March, when he played in the 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to eventual winners Leicester.
He then went off on international duty and suffered the injury which ended his season early.
It also ruled him out of the Euros, where France were knocked out in the last 16.

The update also says that Jesse Lingard is unavailable after testing positive for Covid-19.
He is isolating and there was no timeline provided on when he will be back.
Lingard’s England international teammate Dean Henderson is also ruled out of the game, because he is suffering with the effects of Covid too.
Paul Pogba and Fred are both on the bench and could make their first United appearance of the summer too.
