Lisandro Martinez jetted out to Paraguay just hours after Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.
The 26-year-old played the full 90 minutes against Leicester on Sunday afternoon in what turned out to be Ruud van Nistelrooy’s farewell match.
Lisandro Martinez has been “excellent” for United recently and he was called up to the Argentina national team ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifier matches over the November break.
Lisandro Martinez is one of 15 United players called up for international duty and he began his journey to South America shortly after starring in the win over Leicester.
He is joined by Alejandro Garnacho in the Argentina squad and both will hope to feature for their nation in their upcoming clash against Paraguay on Thursday evening.

Lisandro Martinez left stranded on international duty
Despite leaving Manchester after the Leicester match, Martinez is still yet to arrive in Paraguay and meet up with the Argentina squad.
That is because he – as well as a handful of teammates – have been left stranded in Brazil due to complications with flights.
As reported by Footboom, Martinez has been stuck at a Brazilian airport for over 30 hours alongside Emiliano Martinez, Christian Romero, Enzo Fernandez and Facundo Buonanotte.
Via Instagram, Martinez shared a picture of himself alongside Emiliano Martinez and Romero as they wait for another flight.

The caption of the post translates to: “30 hours and we’re still on a trip.”
They were scheduled to arrive around noon, but their flight was delayed.
When Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho will return
Garnacho was also named in the Argentina squad alongside Martinez, but made separate travel plans to his Manchester United teammate to fly to Paraguay.
However, the report from above claims that Garnacho is also yet to report for training as he is expected to arrive in the country later tonight.
It is not yet known whether they will play a part in the match against Paraguay on Thursday. Argentina’s second match of the November break is against Peru on Wednesday, 20th November.
Ruben Amorim’s first match as United boss is just four days later on Sunday, 24th. It means Garnacho and Martinez will likely not get much rest between both matches as they make the lengthy journey back to Manchester.
