Lisandro Martinez and Casemiro were both on the same wavelength after Manchester United’s 2-0 Europa League victory over FCSB on Thursday evening.

The Red Devils travelled to the National Arena in Bucharest and Ruben Amorim’s men punched their ticket to the round of 16 in the Europa League.

Diogo Dalot fired United into the lead against FCSB in the second half before Kobbie Mainoo netted the Red Devils’ second only eight minutes later.

United’s win over the Romanian outfit put the Red Devils in third place in the Europa League table for the league phase format of the competition.

Ruben Amorim’s side were one point short of second-place Athletic Club and first-place Lazio after eight matches played in UEFA’s second-tier club tournament.

United will now meet AZ Alkmaar, Midtjylland, Real Sociedad or Galatasaray in the last 16 of the Europa League in the 2024-25 campaign.

Martinez and Casemiro send messages

Ruben Amorim has overseen Manchester United’s last four Europa League wins since his arrival from Portuguese side Sporting CP last November.

Erik ten Hag had picked up three draws with United in the Europa League in the current season before the former Ajax manager was sacked in 2024.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was assistant manager under Erik ten Hag, managed one win in the Europa League with United before the Red Devils legend left Old Trafford.

Lisandro Martinez has impressed in recent weeks for United and the 27-year-old Argentine defender started in the three-man backline for the FCSB clash.

The United centre-back played 71 minutes at the National Arena before Amorim swapped him out for Leny Yoro for the remainder of the Europa League tie.

Casemiro, who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, came off the bench in the 72nd minute and replaced United midfielder Christian Eriksen.

The 32-year-old former Real Madrid star, who has attracted interest from Al Nassr, sent a clear message to United fans after the win in Bucharest.

Casemiro wrote on Instagram: “Onto the round of 16!”

Martinez, much like Casemiro, shared his excitement for United reaching the last 16, but the Argentine also thanked the travelling supporters at the National Arena.

The former Ajax star wrote on Instagram: “Into the last 16! Thanks to the travelling support, Red Devils!”

Amorim on Man Utd support for match

United will turn their attention back to the Premier League on Sunday for the Crystal Palace match at Old Trafford, with kick-off slated for 2pm UK time.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, United manager Amorim was thrilled with the reception at the National Arena in Bucharest.

“It was amazing,” he wrote, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“Really noisy and really good support but you can see our players are used to playing in this kind of environment.”
