Marquee Manchester United summer signing Leny Yoro revealed that one club legend would rank among his top three favourite Red Devils players of all time.

Leny Yoro arrived at Old Trafford after Manchester United signed him for an initial fee of £52.18m from Ligue 1 side Lille, with a further £6.73m agreed in add-ons.

The 18-year-old highly rated Frenchman had attracted interest from Real Madrid before United completed their stunning transfer swoop this summer.

Yoro was included in United’s pre-season tour and secured regular playing time, including impressing with his performance in the 2-0 win over Ranges in July.

However, United manager Erik ten Hag was dealt a major blow after Yoro picked up an injury in the 2-1 defeat against Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in California.

Yoro successfully underwent surgery on his foot injury in August and has now been ruled out of action for the Red Devils for around three months.

The United centre-back is tipped to miss nine Premier League matches, as well as the start of the Red Devils’ campaigns in the Europa League and the Carabao Cup.

Yoro picks three favourite Man Utd players

Leny Yoro is not expected to return to Manchester United first-team action until October after he sustained his injury against Arsenal.

“Yoro’s rehabilitation starts now and we look forward to the 18-year-old returning to fitness in around three months,” United confirmed in a statement on their website.

Speaking to GQ Sports, Yoro was asked to name his top three favourite United players of all time, with the Frenchman picking Nani among his choices.

Nani, who signed for a new club earlier this month, ascended to United cult hero status during his successful playing spell at Old Trafford.

Another of Yoro’s picks was none other than Raphael Varane, who left Old Trafford this summer after his contract with United expired at the end of the 2023-24 season.

Raphael Varane signed for Serie A outfit Como and the 31-year-old former Real Madrid star endured a horror debut for the Italian side on Sunday.

Joining Varane and Nani among Yoro’s picks was none other than United legend Rio Ferdinand, who played a key role in the Frenchman’s transfer to Old Trafford.

Man Utd star Yoro on Ferdinand’s influence

Yoro previously revealed that Rio Ferdinand had spoken with him before his move to United and talked up the rich history behind the Red Devils.

“It was like two weeks ago [when I first spoke to Rio],” he said in July, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“He called me. First of all, I was really impressed to speak with him and, yeah, we spoke [for] like 10 minutes about Man United, so he helped me a lot to make my choice.

“It was really an honour to speak with him. He spoke to me about the club, and that this is a historic club with a big story, and if I go there, I need to fight for the club, to be ready, because this is the biggest club in the world.

“For me, it was really good to speak about this.”
