Manchester United dispatched the Rangers at their home for their first win of the pre-season courtesy of Amad’s scintillating performance.
The Ivorian got the team off the mark in a brilliant first-half display where United played some lovely stuff.
Obviously, the attackers stole the headlines but on this day, nobody was going to be stealing Leny Yoro’s limelight on his club debut.
The Frenchman started alongside elder statesman Jonny Evans (Yoro was one when Evans made his debut!) and his performance had all the United fans saying the same thing-

Fans react to Leny Yoro’s Man Utd debut
Yoro played the first 45 minutes, coming off at half-time as Erik ten Hag changed everyone except for the goalkeeper in the second.
United enjoyed the bulk of possession as, unlike Rosenborg, Rangers are also starting their season now the gap in fitness wasn’t much.
Yoro fully capitalised on his opportunity as he surpassed all expectations on his debut. People knew he had great traditional defensive skills but his skill with the ball left fans in disbelief.
He played some great passes from deep and carried the ball forward confidently as Rangers were caught unaware by his attacking enterprise.
One fan already anointed him as the next in line for a United legend, “Yoro reminds me of a young Rio Ferdinand during his West Ham days”. The praise didn’t stop there as another wrote, “The guy isn’t pressured at all! Just enjoying the game”.
His passing skills combined with his defensive excellence had fans dreaming of greatness when his to-be partner returns. One wrote, “Him and Martinez [Lisandro] will be the best duo this season”, while another said, “Yoro and Martinez is like Ferdinand and Vidic”.
The performance already has some fans convinced that the fee is a bargain as one said, “We underpaid for him, should have been at least £100 million”. Another saw the legend of a recently departed Frenchman, “It feels like Varane is still at United”.
How much can one really take from a pre-season game? One fan summed it up when he said, “I’ve seen enough, Leny Yoro is the best center-back in the world”!
Encouraging early signs
Jokes aside, this performance by Leny Yoro bodes extremely well for the future. It shouldn’t be forgotten that Andre Onana started his United career by getting lobbed from 50 yards on his debut pre-season game.
Regardless of the gravity of the game, a good debut performance goes a long way towards building a player’s confidence and can set the tone for future performances.
At just 18, growing pains and development can be expected from Yoro but as long as it is mixed in with performances like these, the sky is the limit.
All eyes were on him before the match, and his performance won’t be doing anything to temper those sky-high expectations.
