Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeper Lee Grant has signed a new contract.

Grant has agreed a new one-year deal after his existing one expired at the end of the season.

The 38-year-old has spoken to the club’s website after penning the deal.

“I was always very, very hopeful that I could extend my stay for another year and thankfully the club have allowed me to do that,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to the challenge of supporting the team, keeping myself going, as well as motivating others around me for another year. Feeling valued and enjoying your role is huge, no matter what line of work you’re in.

“I’m obviously fortunate that I’ve got the opportunity to do that at such a wonderful club. I’m really looking forward to another year with the lads. Whoever has the gloves, it’s up to the other guys to really push to make sure that, as a team, we’re able to get the best possible results.

“Whether it’s David (de Gea), Dean (Henderson) or myself, we’ll all be pushing to play and excited and ready to support the one that is playing.”

Grant is the second player to agree a new United contract today, with Juan Mata also signing an extension.

It’s been a busy couple of days for United, with the agreement in principle to sign Jadon Sancho coming yesterday before the deal to sign another goalkeeper in Tom Heaton was confirmed today.

Grant’s extension suggests Heaton has been brought in as number two, and indicates Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could make a decision on de Gea and Henderson this summer.

Grant said back in March that he wanted a new United contract and has got his wish.
