Casemiro’s perfect pre-game instructions to Kobbie Mainoo
Casemiro has been Mainoo’s midfield partner for the majority of his time as a senior footballer, and as such, they have an excellent relationship.
After signing his new contract, Mainoo spoke with club media, disclosing what Casemiro tells him just before every game.
“Before every game,” Mainoo explained. “When we go around and shake everyone’s hand while we’re on the pitch, Casemiro will say, ‘let’s have fun. Let’s enjoy football.’ You know, that’s what it is [all about], isn’t it?
“You have fun, and you love to win.
“But ultimately, I’d be playing the game for free, I’d be playing in the back garden, if I wasn’t playing it here.”
Casemiro’s message to Mainoo clearly sinks in, because the 21-year-old plays football like he enjoys it.
Mainoo’s moment of brilliance against Brentford showcased this as he dribbled by a handful of defenders to almost create the assist of the season.

Manchester United will allow Mainoo to enjoy himself even more next season
Mainoo’s comments on enjoying football are key to Manchester United being able to get the best out of him.
Lately, Mainoo has been excellent defensively, but this isn’t where he will enjoy his football most. At the moment, it is a needs must.
Casemiro’s lack of ability to get around the pitch putting heavier burden on Mainoo, but next season won’t have this issue. United pairing Mainoo with an Aurelien Tchouameni or Carlos Baleba.
This would allow Mainoo to push up the pitch more often and create more magical moments doing what he loves doing, beating defenders and even getting back among the goals.
Matheus Cunha says Mainoo is Brazilian, and he will get to show it more often next season.
