Kobbie Mainoo put the team on his back in Man Utd’s 2-1 win against Brentford, and answered the only question about his game in the process.

Brentford have traditionally been tricky opponents for Man Utd, but Michael Carrick’s players put in a professional performance for their 2-1 win.

Benjamin Sesko and Casemiro scored, while Bruno Fernandes got another assist to be one away from equalling the PL record.

However, amongst all this, Kobbie Mainoo must not be forgotten, who answered the only question about his game in fine fashion to fully embarrass Ruben Amorim.

Kobbie Mainoo shows his combative side

Mainoo’s quality on the ball has never been in doubt, but what he’s started doing since his absence vs Leeds has been truly remarkable.

He has kept that skill on the ball and brought a more consistent and professional approach to his game out of possession.

He was the best player vs Chelsea, and he repeated that feat against Brentford, who are a far more physical side and relish duels.

Mainoo shook off his lightweight reputation with gusto, flying into duels, winning the ball back, tackling with precision and power, all the while working his magic on the ball.

He’s making a superstar ascent in real time, and it’s remarkable to see how quickly that has happened once Carrick restored him to the first XI.

According to Michael Owen, this latest leap in his game leaves him with no weaknesses anymore.

Michael Owen on ‘outstanding’ Mainoo

The only question about Mainoo’s game was about his combativeness, and he firmly answered that since Carrick arrived.

That didn’t get missed by Owen, who raved about the Man Utd ace, saying he has zero weaknesses in his game now.

He said: “His skill level has never been in danger, but it was his combative bit that really impressed me. This was a game for legs. His all-round game was outstanding. He’s not got a weakness. There were questions about his mobility, but he’s answered them!”

From a deep-lying playmaker spraying passes everywhere but needing protection, Mainoo has evolved into a box-to-box player capable of doing everything.

Once he brings back his goalscoring touch, some conversations will need to be had about him potentially being one of the best in the world, provided he keeps this level up.
