Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has sent a message to supporters following the club’s FA Cup exit.

Joshua Zirkzee was one of two players to miss a penalty in the shootout loss at home to Fulham in the FA Cup.

Zirkzee missed United’s final spot-kick to seal elimination, but an earlier miss from Victor Lindelof meant Fulham would have progressed anyway if they scored their fifth.

It was an unhappy end to United”s FA Cup defence, following a 1-1 draw and extra-time at Old Trafford.

Joshua Zirkzee sends message to fans

Joshua Zirkzee has fronted up after his penalty shootout miss and apologised, even though he did not have to.

Zirkzee posted a message on Instagram stories, reading: “Sorry to let u down today reds! Thanks for the incredible support.”

Zirkzee’s penalty was a poor one. It was not far enough into the corners and lacked pace and conviction. Victor Lindelof’s was no better.

Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Casemiro scored theirs, United’s first three – but Andre Onana did not get anywhere near saving any of Fulham’s four penalties, sent the wrong way each time.

Zirkzee had scored in the previous round to help United comeback against Leicester, his first goal of 2025.

Ruben Amorim spoke out to praise Zirkzee’s performance, commending him for ‘fighting for every ball’, and providing a constant outlet in attack, even if everything did not come off successfully.

Key moments in Manchester United exit

Calvin Bassey gave Fulham a lead just before half-time, ensuring that once again, Manchester United conceded the first goal at Old Trafford.

United were improved in the second half, with the consistently impressive Bruno Fernandes scoring an equaliser from outside the box after a pass from Portugal teammate Dalot.

Chido Obi had replaced Rasmus Hojlund and was a more lively presence, but the teenager lacked conviction with the half-chances he had.

Alejandro Garnacho had United’s best opportunity in stoppage time, but wasted the chance, and Fulham were able to hang on in extra-time and force penalties.

The loss was a wasted opportunity for United, with a home quarter-final against Crystal Palace awaiting the victor.
