The Manchester derby victory was a marquee one but it came at a cost, namely Mason Mount’s injury which forced him to come off in less than 15 minutes into that game.

Ruben Amorim confirmed after the defeat to Spurs in the Carabao Cup that it’s another long injury that will see Mason Mount miss ‘several weeks’.

In a busy festive period, that means he could be set to miss more than double figures of games as they come quickly.

Mount’s message on his latest injury was a poignant one as his Man Utd career refuses to take off due to one injury after another. Mount’s injury history at United is threatening to derail it altogether after the latest one.

Teammates Joshua Zirkzee and Bruno Fernandes have now reacted to their teammate’s message who’s clearly going through a tough time due to factors beyond his control.

Joshua Zirkzee reacts to Mason Mount’s injury

Zirkzee offered words of support to his teammate, wishing that he returns to the fold soon healthy and firing again.

“Back soon my bro!”, he wrote, with a heart and praying emoji, reacting to Mount’s injury message that had a clear distraught tone to it.

Zirkzee could be one of the players who could see their playing time and responsibilities increase due to Mount’s injury because of the way Amorim has used them so far.

Mount has always been deployed as one of the two advanced midfielders and in his absence, Zirkzee could be a candidate to play there.

Rasmus Hojlund has shown more as a natural striker and with Fernandes emerging as an option in the deeper midfield roles, the Dutchman could be in line for an increased role in Mount’s absence.

Bruno Fernandes sends message to Mason Mount

Fernandes has always been quick to offer words of support to teammates on social media and it was no different this time, with the United captain offering words of support to Mount.

“Always with you. We will be by your side in every moment. We fall together, we rise together!”, wrote Bruno, with a heart emoji and a bicep flex emoji.

Fernandes has been ever present for the club since arriving at Old Trafford which is the polar opposite of Mount’s situation so far.

He can still sympathise with the problems of a teammate who clearly wants to be available and succeed at United but his body is just not cooperating at the moment.

If nothing else, public words of support like these from teammates can go a long way towards silencing the unnecessary vitriol that gets directed toward injured players.

Mount can now look forward to repaying the trust and support of his teammates who are standing by him in this difficult period of his career.
