Ruben Amorim has provided a further update on Mason Mount’s injury following the Manchester derby.

Watching Mason Mount come off injured again came as a blow, and the frustration written across his face said it all.

Ruben Amorim, who has made it clear he rates Mount, didn’t look very happy on the touchline after only welcoming the England international back for selection.

Mount is now set to miss games over the festive period after being forced off in United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City.

United fans feared another lay-off because Mount has been very unlucky with injuries since moving to Old Trafford. He has missed over 30 matches due to injury after leaving Chelsea over a year ago.

Ruben Amorim dealt Mason Mount injury blow

United will be without Mount for several weeks, according to Amorim.

The Reds have three matches between now and the new year – against Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle. They’re all winnable fixtures, but Amorim won’t have Mount available for any of those fixtures. It remains to be seen how many of the seven games in January he will miss.

Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting against Bournemouth, Amorim provided an update on Mount’s injury, saying: “Several weeks. I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for long. And that’s it, it’s part of football and you continue.”

Amorim was also asked whether he was concerned about players picking up injuries, and he took the time to explain how he would help Mount during the recovery process.

“No it’s not. That is not my department.

“What I can do is to help Mase, to teach him how to play our game when he’s recovering. To try to use that time for him to think about different things. I think the worst part is that we don’t have time to train like we should do, when you are recovering from a lot of injuries.

“With Mason Mount, we are going to help him. It is really hard for a player to be out for so long and is trying really hard, the same for me. If they try really hard, we will help them until the end.”

Mount suits Amorim’s system

Mount is perfect for Amorim’s system

Amorim earmarked Mount as one of his preferred No10s in a 3-4-3 formation when he got the job, but the Three Lions star hasn’t been able to prove himself due to injuries.

Erik ten Hag had similar problems last season when Mount missed a lot of games due to injury.

Both managers appreciate the work rate Mount has in abundance. Furthermore, he is one of the few players at United who knows how to press.

Sadly for Mount, it looks like he is having a repeat of that season – spending more time in the treatment room than on the pitch.

This will come as a blow for Amorim’s plans because Mount is a player he’d like to be able to rely on.
