Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is “still in touch” with one Red Devils player and will let him know when he’s played well over text.
Jose Mourinho arrived at Old Trafford in 2016 after Louis van Gaal was axed from the Premier League club following Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph.
The 61-year-old Portuguese manager enjoyed incredible success in his first season at United, with Mourinho leading United to the Europa League title and the League Cup.
Mourinho’s second season saw United finish second in the Premier League behind Manchester City, as well as losing in the FA Cup final against Chelsea in 2018.
However, the former Chelsea and Porto boss’ two-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford came to an end in 2018 after a disappointing start to the 2018-19 campaign.

Mourinho keeps in touch with one United player
Jose Mourinho went on to manage Premier League side Tottenham and Serie A club Roma, with the former Manchester United manager sacked by the latter last week.
Scott McTominay, who named his toughest opponent, received his first-team United debut under Mourinho in 2017 and has high admiration for the ‘Special One.’
The 27-year-old United midfielder recently opened up on the rules that Erik ten Hag has in place at Old Trafford and the one manager who transformed him as a player.
Speaking on Mourinho, McTominay revealed that he has kept in touch with the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager after he was axed from Old Trafford.
“On the day he left, I saw him in the corridor and he invited me in,” he told The High Performance Podcast.
“I didn’t know what to say. I was gutted. It was hard.
“This guy means so much to me and has given me all the dreams I could ever wish for, and now he’s gone.
“I didn’t know what to think. I was umming and aahing. I just said, ‘Thank you for the opportunity, you’ve been a real-life legend for me, good luck for what you do next.’
“We are still in touch sometimes, if I’ve had a good game, he lets me know.
“He’ll text saying, ‘Well done, kid’ as he always calls me. They were great times and I’m so grateful for him.”
Ex-United boss Mourinho without a club
During his appearance on The High Performance Podcast, McTominay shared one heartfelt memory involving legendary former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The United star also shared his experience of being at Old Trafford since Mourinho handed him his debut and the two best professionals he played alongside.
Mourinho is currently without a club since he was axed from Roma, with the Portuguese head coach sharing a wholesome message with fans of the club.
The ‘Special One’ received a spine-tingling reception from Roma fans after his exit from the Stadio Olimpico, which left Mourinho on the verge of tears.
The former Roma boss has attracted interest from one club in Saudi Arabia, but Mourinho has made his stance clear on the lucrative offer after his recent sacking.
United legend Rio Ferdinand has also reacted to Mourinho’s absence and has already ruled out one potential destination for the former Red Devils head coach.
