Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has broken his silence and posted a heartfelt message after he was sacked by Serie A side Roma.

The 60-year-old Portuguese football coach first arrived at the Stadio Olimpico in 2021 after he was axed from Premier League side Tottenham.

Mourinho, who succeeded Paulo Fonseca at Roma, enjoyed success in his first season back in Italy and led the club to the Europa Conference League title.

The former United and Chelsea boss also took Roma to the Europa League final last season, only for the Italian side to fall short to Sevilla on penalties in Budapest.

However, Mourinho’s third season at the Serie A outfit saw Roma struggle to mount an effective challenge in the domestic league.

Roma are ninth in the league table after 20 matches played and are five points adrift from the top four at the time of Mourinho’s sacking from the club.

Mourinho, who opened up on his time at Old Trafford in 2023, were also dumped out of the Coppa Italia last week in a 1-0 defeat to city rivals Lazio.

Mourinho’s message after Roma sacking

Mourinho’s future at the Serie A club had been in doubt for some time, with the ‘Special One’ due to be out of contract with Roma at the end of the current season.

However, Roma on Tuesday announced that the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager had been axed “with immediate effect.”

Mourinho took to Instagram on Tuesday and shared a heart-warming montage from his spell at Roma over the last two-and-a-half years.

The former Porto and Tottenham head coach also shared a message in Italian to his 3.9m followers on Instagram.

“Sweat, blood, tears, joy, sadness, love, brothers, history, heart, eternity,” he wrote.

What is next for Mourinho?

Mourinho has been linked with a sensational return to the Premier League in recent weeks amid growing pressure on under-fire Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.

Roma legend Daniele De Rossi, who previously managed Italian side SPAL, was announced as Mourinho’s replacement at the Stadio Olimpico until the end of the season.

“We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” Roma’s owners Dan and Ryan Friedkin said.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club.

“We wish Jose and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”
