Scott McTominay names two of the best professionals he’s ever played with at United

Scott McTominay has named the two former Manchester United players who were one of the best professionals in the group.

Since coming through into the first team back in 2017, Scott McTominay has shared the dressing room with some world-class talent at Manchester United.

Jose Mourinho, who was recently sacked by AS Roma following the Italian side’s struggles in Serie A, handed the Scottish midfielder his debut and the 26-year-old won the trust of the Portuguese manager during his stint at Old Trafford.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Cristiano Ronaldo are just some of the stars he has shared a dressing room with and McTominay has named two of the most professional players he has played with.

McTominay on professional pairing

Speaking on the High-Performance Podcast, the Scottish midfielder revealed he was rather aggressive during his first few training sessions with the first team and was arguing with Carrick and Ashley Young over his feelings that the referees were favouring the stars during training.

“I was arguing with Michael Carrick and Ashley Young who are two of the best professionals you could ever meet,” McTominay said when talking about the situation.

As well as this, McTominay took his praise for Carrick further and revealed he was one of the best he’s ever played with.

“(He was) One of the best players I’ve ever played with or been coached by,” McTominay revealed. “The way he thought about the game and how he approached things was just different. He would see flaws in your game before you do and that was just when he was playing with you.

“The level of detail he went into was amazing. You could see it first hand, he was incredible for me personally.”

Carrick’s potential

Carrick was the interim manager at Old Trafford after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal and he picked up two wins and a vital draw against Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Now at Middlesbrough, Carrick has masterminded a remarkable turnaround and the EFL Championship side currently leads 1-0 against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final in the two-legged tie.

Carrick’s team are just one point outside of the play-off places and he has done a remarkable job and you wonder if a job in the Premier League could be in the offing for the ex-United midfielder.
