New Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has indicated that the Premier League giants may make a ‘fresh decision’ about Mason Greenwood’s future at the Old Trafford outfit after his loan spell at Getafe comes to an end.

While understandably reluctant to get too bogged down in the whole Mason Greenwood saga during his first interview as the co-owner of Manchester United, the Ineos chief did admit that any decision regarding the forward would be made with ‘the club’s values’ in mind.

Greenwood has not featured for the Red Devils since 2022 after he was suspended by the club.

Two years on, the England international’s future remains largely uncertain. Per The Athletic, there were plans to reinstate him into Erik ten Hag’s first-team last summer before – amid a storm of controversy – they opted to farm Greenwood out on loan to Getafe instead

Now, with his contract expiring in 2025, Man United will go into the next window under pressure to either sell the academy graduate – before he becomes a free-agent – or commit themselves to offering the 22-year-old a route back into the squad.

“It’s a fresh decision,” Ratcliffe tells the Daily Mail and BBC Sport after his takeover was ratified on Tuesday. “I can talk about the principle. I’m not going to talk about Mason.

“I am familiar with (the situation). The principle is the important one. We will have other issues going forwards.

“You are dealing with young people who have not always been brought up in the best circumstances. Who have a lot of money and they don’t always have the guidance they should have.

“What we need to do when we have issues like that is understand real affects, not the hype. Then, we need to make a fair decision in the light of the club’s values. That’s what we need to do and that’s how we will deal with it.

“We need to look at facts,” Ratcliffe adds. “Judge fairly and take into consideration what the values of the club are. Then we come out of that with a decision. It is not appropriate for me to comment on Mason Greenwood.”

La Liga giants linked with Getafe loanee

With seven goals and five assists, Greenwood has been a big hit in Spain.

Rumours have emerged suggesting that there is interest from the likes of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Atletico, with one La Liga expert labelling him a footballer boasting ‘Real Madrid-level’ quality.
