Jadon Sancho has just become a Bundesliga record-breaker

Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho has finally fully arrived for Borussia Dortmund.

The English winger decided to depart Old Trafford in the January window, heading back to the club Manchester United purchased him from – Borussia Dortmund on loan.

After a promising debut, it’s been somewhat downhill for Sancho in the Bundesliga. A sea of mediocre performances have somewhat justified Erik ten Hag‘s decision to exile the 23-year-old from Carrington.

However, his performance on the weekend will have turned a few heads. He’s finally off the mark for the German side again.

Jadon Sancho scores for Borussia Dortmund

Sancho scored his first goal since rejoining Borussia Dortmund as they beat Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga.

Donyell Malen put Dortmund 1-0 up, and just 17 minutes later in the 38th minute, Sancho picked the ball up on the left wing neatly dribbling into the area and smartly finishing past Bremen’s keeper.

This was Sancho’s first goal since the 27th of April 2023, when he struck for the Red Devils in the Premier League against Tottenham Hotspur.

Bremen managed to pull one back in the second half, meaning Sancho’s strike was the decider on the day.

With his latest strike, Sancho now has 39 goals in the Bundesliga – meaning he is now the joint English record goalscorer in German top-flight history along with Tony Woodcock.

The English forward took to Instagram after the game to express his delight with the victory and the goal. ‘+3 and a Goal’ he writes.

Marcel Sabitzer also in the headlines

Former Manchester United man Marcel Sabitzer was dismissed for the first time on his 205th Bundesliga appearance. The last time he was sent off was 9 years ago while playing for Salzburg against Admira Wacker in the Austrian Bundesliga.

It was a straight red for the Austrian, which seemed a little harsh. Referee Deniz Aytekin defended his decision after the game: In an interview with Sky Sports, the referee said:

“In the end, of course, it’s unfortunate. Marcel Sabitzer has no intention of doing that. But it’s not about whether it’s accidental, he hit the player in a very unfortunate place, in the Achilles tendon area. We have to protect the players’ health and that’s why it’s a red card.”
