Heading into the summer Manchester United fans had hopes that both Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho would be playing for the Red Devils this season.
United ended up with neither, with both Aston Villa and Borussia Dortmund setting asking prices which were beyond what United wanted to pay.
Nonetheless, Sancho and Grealish were reportedly United’s top targets, ESPN reported, and last night they both combined for England.

They showed what they were capable of in the win over Ireland, with Grealish providing an assist for Sancho to score a well taken second goal after Harry Maguire had headed in the opener.
It was a case of ‘what could have been’ for United, and a message on social media from Grealish underlined it.
Grealish wrote, ‘I love playing with u’, in response to Sancho’s Instagram post.

United have struggled for creativity this season and both players would make a big difference.
While Sancho’s form for Dortmund has been indifferent lately, this game showed what he is capable of.
The pairing are a combination which could continue to be a big success for England.
And as they continue to impress for the Three Lions, particularly in Grealish’s case, their price tags will stay high.
It is not impossible United end up signing one of them in the future, but it feels like our window to land them both has passed.
Some of that is down to circumstance, like Villa narrowly avoiding relegation, and the pandemic severely impacting the club’s finances.
United will probably have to look elsewhere to find new combinations. But as long as Grealish and Sancho perform well together, it will be tough to watch from the perspective of a Red Devils fan.
