Jack Grealish names one current Man United star who will be a ‘great manager’, he has already taken the first step

One Manchester United star has all the attributes to become a “great manager” according to Manchester City’s Jack Grealish.

Several former Manchester United players have decided to take the plunge into management with Ruud van Nistelrooy appointed at Leicester City this season after his spell as interim boss at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick is battling for Premier League promotion at Middlesbrough while Wayne Rooney was sacked by Plymouth recently. There has certainly been mixed success for Sir Alex Ferguson’s disciples.

Current United head coach Ruben Amorim is another example of a player who wasted no time entering management after hanging up his boots.

Manchester City star Jack Grealish believes there is one player in Amorim’s dressing room at the moment who could follow a similar path and become a manager when he retires.

Harry Maguire will become a ‘great manager’

Recently, Harry Maguire responded to Amorim’s call for leaders at United, having stepped up and impressed in recent matches against Liverpool and Arsenal.

His mental resilience has been extraordinary. Maguire was mocked by Arsenal fans last year but his excellent display at The Emirates proves he can block out criticism. That is a trait which is needed to become a top-class manager.

Grealish and Harry Maguire were tasked with picking England stars who will become good future managers, and Grealish put the United star at the very top of his ranking.

Via the England YouTube channel, Grealish said: “I’ve got to put you at the top. I think H [Maguire] would be a great manager. I think he’d be a really good man manager, he’s experienced and knows the game.

“I think he’d be really good. I’d love to see how you played. I’d love to see you standing at the front taking meetings.”

Grealish ranked Maguire as the most likely player to enter management alongside Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. Marc Guehi and Jude Bellingham followed just behind, with the England duo deeming it too early to judge whether Kobbie Mainoo will want to become a manager.

Harry Maguire has taken first steps into management

Maguire’s contract was recently extended at United after he impressed Amorim, but at 31 years old, he has also started planning for life after retirement.

Back in October, it was revealed that Maguire enrolled to begin his coaching badges alongside United teammate Jonny Evans.

Maguire and Evans signed up to begin their UEFA B qualification badge, which is now a requirement to pursue a career in management.

The United duo are expected to complete the course outside of training hours at Carrington.

Legendary United boss Sir Alex Ferguson always encouraged his players to take coaching courses after training and Maguire has taken his advice. Who knows, maybe one day he’ll be sat in the hot seat at Old Trafford.
