Leny Yoro has become a key part of this Manchester United squad far quicker than many anticipated.

Manchester United beat Real Madrid to sign Leny Yoro this summer, with the French centre-back viewed as an extremely promising prospect.

Yoro’s pre-season was disrupted by an unfortunate injury, but since returning he has been growing into a key player under Ruben Amorim.

United teammates named Yoro as the ‘hardest working’ player in the squad, and it is showing in his progress this season.

Leny Yoro has already made 23 appearances across all competitions this season, and he has only missed two Premier League matches since he recovered from his summer injury.

Ruben Amorim’s unique demand to Leny Yoro

Ruben Amorim’s tactics were criticised by Gary Neville after the Manchester derby, which turned out to be a fairly drab affair.

Eventually, Amorim wants United to control matches, but in the short term he knows that isn’t possible – especially against Manchester City.

However, that is the long-term goal and Yoro is a key piece to solving the puzzle. Speaking to MUTV, Yoro revealed that Amorim has given him some unique instructions.

“We need to control the game,” Yoro said. “If I can bring the ball forward for the strikers, for the midfielders, it is good for us, so I try to do it.

“Yes, the coach has asked me to do it, I am ready to do it and I can do it.”

United staff have been blown away by Yoro, and clearly they feel his on-the-ball ability can help the Red Devils become a dominant side in possession.

How Leny Yoro fared for Man United vs Man City

Amorim confirmed before kick-off on Sunday that Matthijs de Ligt has picked up an injury, so the experienced Dutch defender was missing at Old Trafford.

Harry Maguire stepped in to replace De Ligt in a back three that also included Yoro and Noussair Mazraoui.

While the game was void of big chances, United’s well-organised and aggressive back line was a silver lining for Amorim and fans.

Yoro was a huge part of that and his match stats prove that he put on an impressive display at Old Trafford.

In possession, Yoro had a better pass completion rate than his fellow centre-backs. He completed 89% of his passes (40 out of 45).

He completed three interceptions, one clearance and was not dribbled past at all – it has been over 10 games since a player managed to dribble past Yoro.
