Harry Maguire is convinced Casemiro’s Man Utd resurgence has ‘all’ Premier League teams thinking same thing

Harry Maguire has talked up the devastating form of Brazil midfielder Casemiro after Manchester United’s 2-1 Premier League win over Brentford at Old Trafford.

Casemiro is flying on cloud nine after his resurgence in form at the Premier League club since Michael Carrick’s appointment as interim head coach in January.

The 34-year-old Brazilian midfielder has netted five times and registered an assist in the 13 Premier League matches that Michael Carrick has overseen this season.

Casemiro made his mark in the final third once again on Monday evening after the former Real Madrid star broke the deadlock for Manchester United against Brentford.

Man Utd star Harry Maguire thinks Premier League teams are now putting ‘respect’ on Casemiro’s name again

Harry Maguire chalked up an assist for Casemiro’s opener for Manchester United in the first half against Brentford and later praised the veteran Red Devils midfielder.

“His time in this league, his aggression, his technique, it’s the best I’ve seen and worked with,” he told Sky Sports.

“Really clinical, and he’s been a massive boost for us this season, because without his goals, we wouldn’t be nowhere [near where we want to be] on the table.”

Maguire headed the ball on from a Bruno Fernandes corner kick and Casemiro nodded past Caoimhin Kelleher from the back post inside the opening 15 minutes.

The 33-year-old former Man Utd captain now believes that a rejuvenated Casemiro is striking fear in the hearts of other Premier League teams on the pitch again.

“I’ve played in a lot of teams where I get one [or] two players marking me, and all the focus is on myself,” he added.

“I think now all the teams are respecting that Casemiro is a massive threat as well. So, they have to take a lot of eyes on him.

“They have to put a good defender on him, rather than putting two on [me] at the moment.”

United have edged one step closer to securing a Champions League qualification spot after the Red Devils’ latest Premier League win under Michael Carrick.

Maguire insisted that he is able to complement Casemiro and the five-time Champions League winner does the same for him when they are on the pitch.

“It frees us both up,” he explained.

“Our record when we both play together, when I play, I think Casemiro gets more goals and when he plays, I get more opportunities as well.

“It’s good that we have two big targets, two good threats in the attacking box. And I think it makes [it] a lot harder for the opposition.”

Casemiro has four Premier League matches left in his Old Trafford playing spell before he leaves Man Utd at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
