Man Utd player ratings vs Brentford, Lammens deserved clean sheet as 9/10 ace makes superstar ascent

Manchester United got over the Brentford hump with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford that gets one foot in next season’s Champions League.

There was no repeat of the Leeds lethargy as Man Utd made a fast start, an early goal coming via a predictable route when Harry Maguire headed to Casemiro off a corner, who scored.

Brentford responded dangerously and United needed Senne Lammens to save them, before Bruno Fernandes got his 19th league assist to double the lead via Benjamin Sesko.

United’s rearguard action in the second half backfired when Jensen scored late on to make the score 2-1 and set up a nervy finish, but United saw it through for all three points.

Senne Lammens – 8

Kept United in the contest when Brentford rallied to equalise with some stunning saves. Deserved a clean sheet.

Diogo Dalot – 6

Misplaced passes and being too eager in tackling left the defence exposed at times.

Harry Maguire – 7

Assisted Casemiro’s goal with a set-piece header, but should have been more commanding in his own.

Ayden Heaven – 7

Settled into the game after an erratic start. Tested plenty by Brentford, aerially and on the ground.

Luke Shaw – 5

Early booking saw him play with a hand tied behind his back.

Casemiro – 8

Another goal on a set-piece to mark a beautiful farewell. Rose to the occasion in the second half to repel everything in sight.

Kobbie Mainoo – 9

Unstoppable in both defence and attack. He is quickly becoming a bona fide superstar in world football.

Bryan Mbeumo – 7

Kept the Brentford defence honest with stretching runs.

Bruno Fernandes – 8

Record books squarely in his sight as he assisted Sesko’s first and United’s second. Should have had multiple.

Amad – 5

Missed multiple clear-cut chances and looked mentally off it for large parts of the game. Off at HT.

Benjamin Sesko – 7.5

Wasn’t involved much but when Fernandes fed him the ball, he put it away with killer instinct.

Substitutes

Noussair Mazraoui – 7

Secure defensive display after coming on to shore up the defence at half-time for Amad.

Mason Mount – 6

Buzzed about to plug gaps late on when Brentford pushed for a comeback

Leny Yoro – 6.5

Settled in nicely late on in a rearguard defensive display.

Joshua Zirkzee – 6

Came on late. No impact.
