Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville is convinced that Kobbie Mainoo was one of Manchester United’s two standout performers against Brentford at Old Trafford.
Kobbie Mainoo continued operating from his two-man midfield pivot role alongside Casemiro for Monday’s 2-1 Premier League win under interim boss Michael Carrick.
The 21-year-old England midfielder completed the full 90 minutes of Manchester United’s encounter with Brentford and impressed with his overall display.
Mainoo has enjoyed a resurgence in form at Old Trafford in the second half of the 2025-26 campaign after Ruben Amorim was sacked as Man Utd manager.

Michael Carrick now has more wins than Ruben Amorim this season in seven fewer games! What does this tell you…?
Gary Neville puts Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro in the same bracket in the Man Utd vs Brentford match
Kobbie Mainoo has started all but one Premier League match under Manchester United legend Michael Carrick in the current season for the Red Devils.
The United midfielder climbed back into the England national team ahead of the 2026 World Cup after securing important first-team minutes in recent months.
Casemiro opened the scoring for Man Utd against Brentford in the first half before Benjamin Sesko fired the Red Devils into a 2-0 lead before half-time on Monday.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville insisted that Mainoo’s stunning Man Utd performance against Brentford was only rivalled by Casemiro’s midfield display.
“Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro have been the best two players for Man Utd tonight,” he told Sky Sports.
If Casemiro wanted to stay one more year – surely you would let him?!
Michael Carrick praises Man Utd players for their performance against Brentford after overcoming their Leeds United setback
Man Utd bounced back from their 2-1 defeat to Leeds United earlier this month and secured important Premier League victories over both Chelsea and Brentford.
“The way the boys managed it. It’s a tough league to get results in,” Carrick said after the Brentford match, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“To get the amount of wins we have, we are delighted with that. On the back of the Leeds result, we’ve shown great spirit and good mentality from the boys.
“So, it was a huge effort from the players. We played some really good football, but had to defend well as a team and make blocks.
“There were throws coming in from all angles; we had to defend and everyone played their part today.”
United will now return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon, with the Red Devils hosting Liverpool at Old Trafford.
