Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were both on the same wavelength after West Ham snatched all three points over Manchester United following a controversial penalty.
Erik ten Hag’s men were on top in the first half and dominated West Ham, but the Red Devils failed to capitalise on their clear-cut chances in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat.
West Ham turned the tide in their favour in the second half and Crysencio Summerville broke the deadlock in the 74th minute at the London Stadium.
Casemiro responded seven minutes later with an equaliser for Manchester United, only for West Ham to earn a controversial penalty in the dying stages of the match.
Matthijs de Ligt and Danny Ings came together in the area and referee David Coote had initially not awarded a penalty for the incident at the London Stadium.
However, VAR intervened and David Coote made a U-turn on his initial decision and pointed to the spot, with West Ham pouncing on the opportunity.

Lineker’s verdict on Man Utd and penalty
Jarrod Bowen stepped up and converted past Andre Onana in injury time, with West Ham holding on to their lead for the remainder of extra time.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has seen further pressure placed on his shoulders after the Hammers snatched all three points on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils are now 14th in the Premier League table and have only managed three wins in their opening nine league matches under Ten Hag.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Gary Lineker admitted that he had watched the penalty incident back about “eight times” and made his position clear.
The 63-year-old Match of the Day host believes it was a “mistake” from referee David Coote to walk back on his initial decision not to award a penalty.
“The penalty decision that won it for West Ham, well, I mean, I’ve looked at it about eight times and I can’t see anything close to resembling a foul, let alone the fact that the referee didn’t give it and then VAR turned it over,” Lineker said.
“It looks like a mistake from me.”
Shearer reacts to West Ham penalty vs Man Utd
Alan Shearer, much like The Rest Is Football co-host Lineker, felt the same way about the penalty call and called it a “terrible decision.”
But the 54-year-old Premier League legend believes that United must also accept that they need to “blame” themselves for their missed chances in the first half.
“Well, you look at it another 80 times and you’re still not going to find anything because the referee didn’t give the penalty,” Shearer said.
“Then he’s been told by VAR to go and have a look at the screen, which, okay, but it’s baffling that two really experienced referees can look at that and both of them think, particularly David Coote, the referee thinks, ‘I’ve made an absolute howler here and I’m going to go with what the VAR is telling me.’
“It was a terrible decision, it really was. I mean, Man United would look to that and blame that, but they’ve only got themselves to blame for the chances they missed in the first half.”
