Manchester United fans did not hold back their feelings on Rasmus Hojlund after the Red Devils suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium.
The Red Devils returned to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon following their disappointing 1-1 draw against Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday.
Manchester United impressed during the first half against West Ham and largely dominated the Hammers, despite failing to break the deadlock before half-time.
Julen Lopetegui’s men were able to shift the momentum back in their favour in the second half and stunned United in the 74th minute at the London Stadium.
Crysencio Summerville opened the scoring for the Hammers before Erik ten Hag’s men hit back with an equaliser six minutes later thanks to Casemiro.
However, United were left to rue their missed first-half chances in injury time after West Ham received a controversial penalty following VAR intervention.
Jarrod Bowen converted from the spot-kick and fired West Ham into a 2-1 lead, with the Hammers holding on to their advantage until the full-time whistle.
Hojlund starts for Man Utd vs West Ham
Manchester United are 14th in the Premier League table and are now shockingly only seven points away from falling into the relegation zone.
Erik ten Hag’s side have only managed three Premier League wins in their first nine league matches of the 2024-25 campaign, with United suffering four defeats.
Rasmus Hojlund missed the opening weeks of the Premier League season for United after he suffered a pre-season injury against Arsenal in the United States.
The 21-year-old United striker has made eight appearances across all competitions and he has scored twice for the Red Devils since his return from injury.
Hojlund was in the starting XI for the West Ham defeat and saw out the full 90 minutes of the match, including the 12 minutes of additional time in the second half.
The Denmark international failed to make his presence felt in the 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium, despite having his chances to net against West Ham.
Man Utd fans react to Hojlund’s performance
United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, were left deeply disappointed over Hojlund’s overall showing in the Premier League defeat.
Red Devils supporters complained about the “many chances” that the Danish forward failed to convert against West Ham at the London Stadium.
United fans felt they summed up Hojlund’s performance by questioning whether or not he was still on the pitch amid his lack of presence in the attacking threat.
“I forgot Hojlund was still on the pitch,” one fan said.
Someone else added: “Rasmus Hojlund has offered absolutely nothing in the 100 minutes that he was on the pitch.”
“Almost like Rasmus Hojlund isn’t on the pitch,” another commented.
A fourth X user posted: “Hojlund [was] a different play to last week, him and [Alejandro] Garnacho were absolutely shocking today. [Diogo] Dalot I have no words for.”
While a fifth claimed: “Hojlund was blowing smoke for the last 20 mins and offered nothing, so why the f**k was he not replaced by [Ethan] Wheatley?”
“I forgot Hojlund was even on the pitch. Where the f**k has he been?” somebody else asked.
And a seventh wrote: “Garnacho shouldn’t be starting matches and should in no way be United’s main attacking outlet. How many chances has Hojlund had in the match? Speaks volumes.”
Another simply tweeted: “Hojlund was non-existent in this [match].”
