Timothy Fosu-Mensah is recovering from an ACL tear suffered a month into his move to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this year.

It was more terrible luck for the player who made his Manchester United debut in 2016 and never quite fulfilled his potential.

Fosu-Mensah started United’s first game of the 2020/21 season after bouncing back from a separate ACL tear sustained while on loan at Fulham in early 2019.

The Dutchman spent part of Sunday doing a Q&A with supporters where he reminisced on his spell at Old Trafford and gave an update on his recovery.

When asked which young player he did not like going up against in training, Fosu-Mensah replied to pick out Mason Greenwood.

Perhaps it shouldn’t be surprising. Greenwood has created real problenms for top Premier League defenders and also scored goals in the Europa League and Champions League.

Good memories of United

While training against Mason Greenwood is not a memory Fosu-Mensah is particuarly fond of, he does have some happier ones from his time at Old Trafford.

He picked those out along with updating his followers on how he is recovering, and dealing mentally from suffering a second ACL tear in the space of three years.

Fosu-Mensah could end up playing for Bayer Leverkusen in 2022 if his recovery schedule goes according to plan.

He is under contract until 2024 and is still just 23-years-old. If the Dutchman can stay injury free and play regularly, he could still enjoy a very good career.

He just needs some good fortune to come his way. For now, it is great to see he has a positive attitude about his situation and that he will not be giving up.
