Man Utd could have a player like a new signing after latest change in plans from Michael Carrick

Marcus Rashford’s future this summer is yet to be decided after Barcelona refused to trigger his buy option, with a return to Manchester United on the cards.

Last summer, Marcus Rashford got his dream move to Barcelona, and he did really well.

Rashford outperformed Lamine Yamal per 90, doing everything needed to earn the permanent move to the Camp Nou this summer. Only for Barcelona to turn away and spend £70m on Anthony Gordon instead of £26m on Rashford.

This left the Carrington graduate in limbo, but Rashford and United were prepared to reconcile this summer, knowing that he wouldn’t be put into a ‘bomb squad’ again.

Now this possibility has become a probability.

Marcus Rashford and Manchester United ready to reunite

For months, there have been reports that Michael Carrick would be willing to take Rashford back this summer.

But up until now, there hadn’t been any reliable suggestion of this coming true beyond just if Rashford runs out of options.

Now, David Ornstein has reported an exciting update on The Athletic.

According to the reliable reporter, there is an openness all around for Rashford to be reintegrated into the squad at United.

Rashford is on course to join pre-season and be available to Carrick.

Fabrizio Romano backed this up on YouTube by confirming talks between United and Rashford over his ‘reintegration’.

“In the direct contact taking place in the last 24 hours between Marcus Rashford camp and Manchester United, both parties opened doors to restarting the process to reintegrate Marcus Rashford into the Manchester United squad.

“Manchester United informed Marcus Rashford that they would be happy to welcome him back to training, part of the Michael Carrick squad. Rashford is open to restarting his Manchester United life.”

This is excellent news for United.

Man Utd’s Premier League fixtures for 2026/27 have now been CONFIRMED – What do you think?

Rashford is the best left-wing addition United could make this summer

United have been linked with a lot of left-wingers this summer already. Iliman Ndiaye, Rafael Leao, Bazoumana Toure, Morgan Rogers, and Said El Mala have all been linked, but none of these would be as good as Rashford.

For Barcelona, Rashford found his feet and put in performances that were in line with his best-ever season for United.

One of the best goal scorers and creators in La Liga, and he will be back at United with a point to prove both to the Red Devils and also to Barcelona, he could be in for a sensational campaign next season.

If Rashford carries his form for Barcelona and England into the United squad for next season, he could be a potential title-winning addition.

Rashford starts as United’s left winger and has matured his game in recent years to the point that he would be a creative outlet for Benjamin Sesko, and he is also a much harder worker, thanks to Hansi Flick.

Carrick can get Rashford back to his best, and if he does, then United are in for a treat.
