Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has set a comeback date for Lisandro Martinez to return to Carrington.

Lisandro Martinez has become even more integral to Manchester United’s plans for 2024/25 after the unfortunate injury to Leny Yoro.

Martinez is not on Manchester United’s pre-season tour squad after his starring role for Argentina at the Copa America.

And after starting every key match including the final, Martinez has been given slightly more time off than Alejandro Garnacho, who started only one.

When Lisandro Martinez returns

Alejandro Garnacho is back in Manchester already and is set to check back in at Carrington. Lisandro Martinez is not too far behind.

Erik ten Hag was asked about the duo at his press conference and explained their schedules.

He told club media: “We plan for every individual where they have to show up and that plan is now running. Alejandro will already, tomorrow, start training.

“Licha will start on Monday so I have it in my mind, and that there is a plan and the need for every player in the off-season.”

He added: “We know every player where they are fitness-wise and next week we have to bring everything together.”

While Martinez has been on holiday, the Copa America winner was recently pictured in Ibiza in a Manchester United training top working on his fitness.

Martinez key for United

Martinez was hailed as the world’s best centre-back after his Copa America performances, which added to his heroic display in the FA Cup Final where he shut out Erling Haaland.

The centre-back will begin working towards a comeback in the Community Shield, although starting that game could be a push, with just one week’s training.

A more likely role could come when United take on Fulham in the Premier League season’s opening game.

If fully fit, Martinez will be a certain starter for United, but nobody wants to see him rushed if he is not 100 per cent ready.
