Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard are back in training for Manchester United, The MEN report.

Both players missed United’s FA Cup defeat to Middlesbrough at the weekend for different reasons.

Cavani was given a couple of extra days in South America after Uruguay’s midweek match against Venezuela.

He was unlikely to be considered for the fixture anyway due to possible jet lag and the quick turnaround. Fred only featured because he did not play for Brazil in midweek.

Jesse Lingard’s absence was more controversial, with both player and manager giving different accounts of why the player was not in the squad.

The MEN report Lingard was told to rest by director of football John Murtough, after his exit fell through.

Manager Ralf Rangnick told The Express: after the cup defeat: “We were one outfield player less on the teamsheet today, so why would I have allowed him to have four or five days off? I would have loved to have had him in the squad but it was not the case.”

Rangnick has a press conference at 2pm today (Monday) ahead of United’s Tuesday night clash with Burnley.

The quick turnaround leaves a few fitness questions ahead, with Paul Pogba withdrawn early on his comeback, while Bruno Fernandes also played through the pain to complete the match.

Lingard has to kick on now, and both he and Cavani could be asked to play a part at Turf Moor. United are desperate to get back to winning ways and now focus on securing a top four Premier League spot.

A win over Burnley would make it three league wins in a row for the first time under Rangnick.
