Dutch media react to Tyrell Malacia display as Manchester United loanee features in Champions League comeback victory

Tyrell Malacia left Manchester United for a return to the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven and has now experienced a huge Champions League night.

Manchester United were desperate to land a new left wing back in the January window.

Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system really needed a natural left wing back option with Diogo Dalot looking uncomfortable there.

United snapped up Patrick Dorgu from Lecce, luring the Danish talent to Old Trafford to become Amorim’s left wing back of the future.

That left Tyrell Malacia out in the cold with Amorim seemingly not convinced by the Dutchman.

United sent Malacia on loan to PSV Eindhoven as the transfer window closed, with PSV able to turn the move permanent this summer.

Dutch media on Tyrell Malacia display

Wednesday night saw PSV in Champions League action as they welcomed Juventus to Eindhoven.

Juventus beat PSV 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League knockout clash and were looking to finish off the job in the Netherlands.

Ivan Perisic brought PSV level on aggregate before Timothy Weah appeared to have sent Juve through.

Ismael Saibari pulled PSV level again though and when the game went to extra time, Ryan Flamingo popped up with the winning goal to complete PSV’s incredible comeback.

Malacia came on as a second-half substitute and played through extra time as PSV reached the next round of the Champions League against the odds.

Voetbal International rated Malacia at 6.5 out of 10, believing that he enjoyed a solid performance off the bench.

Voetbal Primeur went a step further though, rating Malacia at 7 out of 10 whilst backing him to displace starting left back Richard Ledezma.

“Came on after 78 minutes. It seems only a matter of time before he pushes Ledezma to the bench,” they wrote.

It’s early days for Malacia at PSV, but he seems to have made a positive impression during PSV’s sensational Champions League win.

PSV boss explains Malacia decision

Malacia started for PSV against Willem II earlier this month but had to settle for a place on the bench against Juventus.

PSV boss Peter Bosz was asked before kick off just why he decided to leave Malacia out.

As quoted by PSV Fans, Bosz simply felt that Ledezma was the best man for the job from the start but Malacia could get his chance to shine.

“Why not Tyrell Malacia? Because I think we have the best chance of winning with these full-backs. Of course it’s also about fitness and the minutes he needs, he’ll get them. Just not from the kick-off today,” said Bosz.

The PSV boss kept his word and brought Malacia on in the second half, handing him valuable minutes in a huge game.

Antony continues to shine with Real Betis and Malacia appears to be enjoying life on loan away from United too with both players surely playing for permanent moves away.
