Dortmund coach explains how Man Utd loanee Jadon Sancho has been performing in training sessions

Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho is bedding back into life in Germany after rejoining Borussia Dortmund until the end of the season.

Both Borussia Dortmund and Jadon Sancho are in a situation they did not expect, reunited two-and-a-half years since his exit.

This was not how Manchester United saw it playing out either, with the winger falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.

Still, this is where we are, and Sancho is glad to have the opportunity to reset his career in Germany.

Jadon Sancho at Borussia Dortmund

Jadon Sancho came off the bench for Borussia Dortmund at the weekend and even provided an assist in their win over Darmstadt.

Whether he will start this weekend at Cologne is another matter, with the winger not starting any competitive fixture since May 2023.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic was asked about this in his pre-match press conference.

He referred to Sancho’s strong fitness levels upon arrival – but said he intends to tread carefully.

Terzic also explained he was happy with Sancho’s training performances.

He told Sport.de: “It’s true that Jadon arrived with good stats. Nevertheless, we know how the last few weeks and months have gone for him.

“If you see that with him, then we’re happy about every training session. He’s doing well this week.

“We also tested Ian Maatsen again on Tuesday. Both are outstandingly good. Nevertheless, we will handle it with caution.”

Sancho out of sight for Manchester United

It would have been no good for Manchester United to keep Jadon Sancho around, sitting out, as he had been.

He fell out with Erik ten Hag in early September, right after the closure of the summer transfer window.

Everybody had expected manager and player to patch up their differences, but instead, the divide between them grew larger with every week.

In the process, Sancho’s reputation and value tanked, meaning United could not sell him even if they wanted to.

It might be hard to watch if Sancho tears it up and plays well for Dortmund, but optics aside, this would actually be good news for the Red Devils, to help restore his market value ahead of the summer.
