Manchester United loanee Diogo Dalot is celebrating after helping AC Milan qualify for the Champions League.

Dalot’s Milan finished second in Serie A in tight end of season race, with fifth placed Napoli just two points back.

Milan achieved qualification with a tricky 2-0 win away to Atalanta, with Franck Kessie scoring two penalties.

Dalot was a substitute, coming on in the 79th minute with Milan 1-0 up.

Dalot seems to have really taken to Milan and is clearly proud of the part he has played in helping them get back into the Champions League.

Like United, they are one of football’s historic clubs and it will be great to see them competing in the Champions League once again.

What’s next for Dalot?

Dalot ended the season with 34 total appearances for AC Milan, of which 22 were starts.

While just 10 of these starts have come in Serie A, clearly the loan deal has been very beneficial for him.

He has managed to play a lot more regularly than he would have done at United.

At the same time, Dalot has not really shown enough to suggest he would come back and dislodge Aaron Wan-Bissaka from right-back, so he will return to a back-up role.

This probably is not a role which will interest Dalot too much, and United should consider cashing in on him this summer in order to raise funds.

Whether Milan want to sign him permanently will depend on their other transfer priorities, but clearly qualifying for the Champions League will help their finances.

United will probably receive a low offer in the £10 million range to start negotiations, and the question is whether the club hold out for more, or simply cut ties with Dalot, move him on, and take whatever we can get.
