Diogo Dalot argues ‘unique’ Man Utd talent should not be compared to three ‘amazing’ iconic players

Diogo Dalot has insisted that Manchester United teammate Alejandro Garnacho should not be compared to three prolific players after labelling him as “something unique.”

Alejandro Garnacho has made a name for himself at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag and the 19-year-old Manchester United star is tipped for a bright future.

The Spain-born winger has made 24 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this season and has scored five times and registered three assists.

Garnacho has played on both wings this season and has had a devastating impact from the right, including scoring a brace in United’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa in 2023.

The United star has also produced show-stealing moments in the current campaign, including his superb overhead kick against Everton at Goodison Park last November.

Dalot on Man Utd star Garnacho

Speaking to Goal, Diogo Dalot praised Alejandro Garnacho and said the Manchester United star’s future success in football is down to his “hunger” and “personality.”

However, the United defender played down comparisons for Garnacho with Red Devils legend Cristiano Ronaldo, Barcelona icon Lionel Messi and Brazil star Neymar.

Garnacho is a big admirer of Ronaldo and played alongside him at Old Trafford, while he is also teammates with Messi on the international stage with Argentina.

Dalot, who has played alongside Ronaldo for both club and country, believes that Garnacho has to “create his own path” and “work a lot because it’s difficult.”

“It’s up to him to have that hunger to have that personality as well and obviously it will be tough,” he said.

“I don’t think there will be a new Cristiano [or] a new Messi any time soon.

“He wants to create his own path with guidelines and looking up to these amazing football players.

“There’s only going to be one Cristiano, one Messi, one Neymar, this is something unique, but I think he has to create his own path and work a lot because it’s difficult.”

Dalot on Garnacho vs Everton

Dalot revealed that he was in the stands when Cristiano Ronaldo scored his stunning long-range strike against Porto in United’s 2009 Champions League clash.

The 24-year-old Portugal full-back, who supports Porto and came through the club’s academy, was in awe at Ronaldo’s brilliance on the night at the Estadio do Dragao.

The other superb strike that Dalot saw live was while he was on the pitch for United, as Garnacho produced his world-class bicycle kick in the 3-0 win over Everton.

“I’ve seen two amazing goals live, one was Cristiano in Dragao against Porto, I was in the stands,” he said.

“And then the other one was this one, watching live it’s the two best goals I’ve seen.”
