Alan Shearer and Micah Richards saying same thing about Alejandro Garnacho’s iconic overhead kick for Man Utd

Alan Shearer and Micah Richards both held the same view after Gary Lineker asked if Alejandro Garnacho’s overhead kick was the best Premier League goal of all time.

Garnacho produced one of the most iconic moments in Premier League history last November during Manchester United’s 3-0 win against Everton at Goodison Park.

The 19-year-old United winger fired United into a first-half lead after he was picked out from a Diogo Dalot cross and smashed home a sensational wondergoal.

Garnacho’s bicycle kick was the show-stealing moment from the Everton match, with many believing that it eclipsed the overhead kick that Wayne Rooney scored against Manchester City.

The United star’s overhead kick is the frontrunner for the Premier League Goal of the Season award and it is unlikely that Garnacho won’t win it by the end of the season.

Shearer and Richards on Garnacho’s overhead kick

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Lineker, Shearer and Richards revisited Garnacho’s goal against Everton for their 2023 ‘awards ceremony’ episode.

Garnacho scooped the trio’s pick for the ‘Goal of the Year’ award, with Lineker admitting his wondergoal is up there as one of the best in Premier League history.

Lineker recalled a Match of the Day: Top 10 episode where they ranked the best Premier League goals and how Dennis Bergkamp’s wondergoal came out on top.

The Match of the Day presenter then proceeded to ask Shearer if Garnacho’s goal had eclipsed Bergkamp’s memorable goal for Arsenal against Newcastle in 2002.

“No, I don’t think so, no,” Shearer said.

“I think that is just… we’ve never seen one like Bergkamp’s before, have we?

“We’ve seen the overhead kicks – and we know how difficult they are – but I mean Bergkamp’s was, yeah.”

Richards agreed with Shearer’s assessment and added: “Still No 1. Still No 1, yeah.”

Garnacho’s goal was a highlight for United fans

United fans have endured both high and low points this season, with Erik ten Hag’s men delivering a mixed set of results in a disappointing campaign so far.

However, Garnacho’s wondergoal against Everton was certainly the best moment for United fans and it was a strike that everyone appreciated.

Even Everton manager Sean Dyche was in awe at the Argentina international’s moment of pure magic and how it changed the entire tempo of the match.

United captain Bruno Fernandes was also blown away by what Garnacho had produced and lauded the impact his strike had against Everton fans in the crowd.
