Dimitar Berbatov thinks £42.2m Man Utd player is about to become so important under Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as Erik ten Hag’s successor and he will already have strong thoughts one one United player.

Manchester United have moved quickly to land a new manager.

Erik ten Hag was sacked by United just last week but the position was only vacant for a few days.

United have appointed Ruben Amorim as head coach, luring the Sporting boss to Old Trafford.

Amorim will only join United in the international break though, meaning United fans face a small wait to see him in the dugout.

Amorim’s first United game will come against Ipswich Town and fans will be fascinated to see his tactical approach.

Dimitar Berbatov thinks Manchester United star will be vital under Ruben Amorim

The big question surrounds the formation.

Amorim has almost exclusively played a 3-4-3 system at Sporting, a system United haven’t played in a long time.

Some player won’t be suited to that approach but Manuel Ugarte is surely looking forward to playing under Amorim again.

Ugarte spent two years playing under Amorim at Sporting before heading to PSG and now United.

Former United star Dimitar Berbatov has now discussed Ugarte’s potential role in the United side under Amorim.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Berbatov noted that he is hearing that Amorim trusts Ugarte a lot and that should lead to a key role.

Berbatov thinks that Ugarte will be ‘covering the pitch’ under Amorim, with the Bulgarian expecting Amorim to keep the 3-4-3 system in tact.

“I think the first thing he’s probably doing right now is assessing what type of players he is going to have at United,” said Berbatov.

“Are they going to suit his way of playing? If not, is he going to bring in new players? But for sure, I think he’s going to stick with the same system, at least give it a try.

“In the middle of the park, he already worked with Ugarte, so he has trust in him, from what I hear, so he’s probably going to be playing in the middle of the park, covering the pitch.

Amorim may be just what Ugarte needs

It’s fair to say that Ugarte’s start to life at United hasn’t quite gone to plan.

Built up as being the answer to United’s midfield woes, Ugarte joined United for £42.2million but his start has been slow.

Gary Neville felt that Ugarte struggled for United against Chelsea and United fans were far from impressed with Ugarte’s display.

This isn’t how Ugarte wanted to start his United career but Amorim has shown that he can get the best out of him.

Yes, the step up from Portuguese football to United is a big one, but Amorim will surely rely on Ugarte to set the tone in United’s midfield and protect his defence moving forward.
