Manchester United legend David de Gea was praised by Red Devils supporters for his classy response after a fan attempted to troll him on social media.
De Gea has been a free agent since last summer after his deal at United expired, with talks over a contract extension breaking down between both sides.
The 33-year-old Spaniard, who spent 12 seasons at Old Trafford, was a key figure at United for over a decade and won the Premier League Golden Glove last season.
De Gea was reportedly willing to take a significant pay cut to agree a new deal at United, having previously earned a whopping £375,000 per week at the club.
However, a new deal failed to materialise and the former United star was allowed to leave, with Andre Onana arriving last summer to succeed him as United’s No 1.
Despite his success at United, De Gea has been a free agent since his departure from Old Trafford and the Red Devils legend’s future in football remains uncertain.
The ex-Spain international has attracted interest in his native homeland and in the Premier League, with Saudi Arabia another destination that De Gea reportedly rejected.

De Gea’s brilliant response to fan’s trolling attempt
De Gea took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, and surprisingly reacted to one fan’s attempt to troll him over what he has done this season.
The fan in question posted a video of De Gea dancing with his pals and captioned the tweet with ‘David De Gea 23/24 Highlight,’ adding a fire emoji to the post.
De Gea was unfazed by the fan’s tweet and responded with a classy message, with United supporters praising him for rising above the trolling attempt.
“Enjoy my movements,” he tweeted, adding a salute emoji and a partying face emoji.
The X user, @EriksButcher, then responded to De Gea by resharing an almost two-hour-long compilation they produced of the United legend being a ‘fraud.’
De Gea rises above the hate
De Gea rightfully took the best route with his response and it is unsurprising that United fans were quick to praise him for doing so with the X user in question.
The former Spain No 1 would be the first to admit that he did make mistakes during his time at Old Trafford, but that is easily overshadowed by his success at the club.
Posting a bizarre compilation around De Gea – some of which include difficult shots to save – is very telling of the kind of user that the Spaniard was dealing with on X.
However, the ex-United shot-stopper remains a favourite with club supporters and some of them felt that Erik ten Hag should have stuck with him for the new season.
Despite Onana’s mistakes at United this season, De Gea has shown his class by remaining quietly on the sidelines and not pouring any further fuel to the fire.
